Social work thrives on exchange, cooperation and a shared perspective on social developments. The realities of life for women and girls with a migrant background are multifaceted – they encompass education, residency rights, the labour market, family, health and social participation all at once.
Close networking with other specialist agencies (e.g. the district equality office), initiatives and associations enables us to:
- identify current developments at an early stage,
- stay at the cutting edge of our field,
- refer complex issues to the appropriate bodies,
- pool resources and avoid duplication of effort,
- and represent the interests of our target groups at a structural level.
For us, cooperation means not only exchanging information, but also actively shaping social infrastructure within the district and beyond.
Unsere Abteilung: Meslek Evi
Meslek Evi was established in 1989 as a project of Elişi Evi e.V. as part of a network of several projects for migrant women in Berlin-Kreuzberg. Elişi Evi e.V. works closely with colleagues at Meslek Evi to promote equality and equal opportunities for women whose first language is not German in the training and labour markets, thereby supporting their integration into the mainstream labour market.
Meslek Evi provides supplementary tuition alongside vocational training in commercial, care and social care sectors, and is aimed primarily at women whose first language is not German. The project supports women with linguistic and technical challenges during their training and empowers them in their current life situation.
Memberships
The Paritätische Gesamtverband (Paritätischer Wohlfahrtsverband)
As a member of the Paritätischen Wohlfahrtsverband we are part of one of the major umbrella organisations for independent social welfare services in Germany.
Among other things, membership offers us:
- expert advice and support on legal, organisational and socio-political issues
- training and professional development opportunities for our team
- up-to-date information on legislative changes and funding structures
- political advocacy at regional and national level
- the opportunity to exchange ideas with other social service providers
We are also active in the working group for migration, where we advocate for the development and continued funding of projects that are particularly important for migrant women.
Forum Berliner Migrantinnen Projekte
The Forum for Berlin Migrant Women’s Projects (Forum Berliner Migrantinnenprojekte) is an alliance of initiatives and organisations that work with and for migrant women.
Participation in the forum enables us to:
- engage in professional dialogue on migration and gender equality policy issues
- network with specialist advice and support services
- formulate joint positions on current social developments
- raise the profile of migrant women’s concerns at the political level
This exchange is of particular importance for target-group-oriented, intercultural counselling work. It strengthens our professional perspective and helps to bring structural disadvantages to public attention.
Local initiatives
Some of our integration courses are not held on our premises, but deliberately take place in local community centres. This makes learning more accessible and allows participants to put their newly acquired language skills into practice straight away in their local community. We work in partnership with:
